Fat Loss Friday - Vitamins to aid in weight loss

Weight loss is a sensitive issue especially in this ‘beauty-glorified’ world we live in today. However, people often associate weight loss with exercise or with loss weight pills, but do you know that vitamins can help you loss those extra kilos too?

When you think about weight loss, you will tend to consider only about an exercise program to burn your fats away or the tasteless and raw foods that you plan to eat. You might also have considered buying the diet drug that you saw at the pharmacy. However, did it ever come across your mind that vitamins might help in weight loss?

Our body requires vitamins and it can be easily obtained from the foods we eat or dietary supplements. Vitamins are very important and there is absolutely no way a person can sustain his life without the presence of necessary vitamins.
Choose the right vitamins

Believe it or not, there are vitamins that aids in weight loss. They are mainly vitamin B2, B3, B5, B6, vitamin B complex and vitamin C. These B vitamins help to convert carbs into glucose, after which they are burned to produce energy for the body. With this in mind, you are encouraged to consume foods, which consist of these highly beneficial vitamins. Each of these vitamins has different functions.

Just to name a few:

Vitamin B2 or also known as Riboflavin is highly required for increased metabolism. You are encouraged to consume more hard cheese, milk and almonds for a healthy intake of Vitamin B2. Next is the B3 vitamin. This vitamin is necessary for normal thyroid hormone production. Leafy green vegetables and eggs are a good source of this vitamin.
Natural sources of vitamins
You can also choose to include wheat bran, meat and salmon. Vitamin B5 is necessary for the production of energy. Good sources of B5 include liver, poultry, nuts and whole grain bread.

It is best that you consult the doctor or your dietitian if you are unsure as to what to include in you meal to ensure sufficient intake of these weight loss vitamins.

Other than natural vitamins that can be found in the food we eat, you can choose to have an extra dose of vitamin through the needles. Vitamin B12 injections are a usual sight at weight loss clinics. The B12 works by boosting your metabolism. As such, this would cause you to digest food faster and burn more calories just by sitting there! With more calories burnt, you will store lesser calories as fat.

At the same time, B12 is energy giving and hence it gives you an energy boost. Most people do not exercise because they are just plain tired after a long day at work. So, with the extra energy, you will feel more energetic and you can afford to exercise more!

You can also choose to take vitamin pills, but remember, vitamin pills are not energy pills! They do not carry any energetic value so remember not to substitute the necessary intake of carbs, fats or carbohydrates with just vitamin pills!

Fat Loss Friday - Healthy Eating Plan For Kids

For most parents, devising a healthy eating plan for their kids is a very difficult task. Kids are very choosy and selective when it comes to eating food. There are only a few foods which they actually enjoy eating and are more inclined towards fast food. That, however, is not healthy for them and parents try different means to make them eat the home made healthy food. There are certain ways by which you can make them interested in their food.

The first thing that you can try is to make the kids help you in the kitchen in preparation of their food. Kids are normally very much interested in such work.
Kids enjoy helping in the kitchen
When they help and cook the food themselves, they automatically associate themselves with that food. If they don't eat it later, they relate it with their failure of not cooking tasty food. So this can be a good option of making them eat the food that they cook themselves.

The other important thing that you have to consider is to determine which nutrients are important for kids according to their ages. Then you can make various different recipes which are rich in those nutrients and they taste good as well. You can consult their doctor and nutritionist in this regard to determine the nutrients and their amounts necessary for the kids. Another important thing to keep in mind while making kids eat the home made food is their presentation. The more interesting and appealing the food looks to them, greater are the chances that they would eat it without much hassle. Mix the foods up in different combinations. Make them colorful by adding food colors and decorations to various recipes. Fruits are very important for kids but most kids don't like to eat them. The solution - make fruit smoothies with them! Fruit smoothies are easy to drink; they look appealing because of their colors and tones. You can even add some colorful sweets and candies to decorate it. Another alternative to fruits could be flavored yogurts. You can get flavored yogurts from markets or you can make them yourselves. Just add your kid's favorite fruit flavor to some plain yogurt. It will taste good so the kids will eat it easily and it would provide all the necessary nutrients to them such as calcium and vitamins.

Other important nutrients necessary for kids are proteins, carbohydrates, and fiber. Eggs are very important for kids. You can make different recipes that utilize eggs so that their nutritious value is preserved and it is also tasteful for the kids. You can make different versions of French toast to utilize eggs. Pancakes are another healthy option that provides the nutritious value of eggs and flour. Basically, there are endless options for making yummy and mouth watering foods for kids that are highly nutritious and tasteful. The key is to present it in such a manner that it appeals to the kids so that they can eat it while enjoying it as well.

Monday Muscle - The Hidden Truth To Muscle Building

Some of you have probably heard of this, but I would bet a lot of us (Myself included) don't apply it like we should.

It is not some secret arcane formula, I'm not telling you to go sacrifice a goat under a new moon or anything. People DO know about it, but so few people actually use the knowledge.

Are you ready to learn the Truth?

The Hidden Truth to building muscle? REST.

I know, it might seem a little obvious. But think about it! Most people put so much emphasis on working out, they completely ignore reccovery. You need to remember that muscle is formed out of the gym, not in it. A large majority of weight lifters could actually be OVERTRAINING because they do nothing but work out, and totally ignore resting. Refrain from making this mistake yourself! Resting is vital.

Use These Four Tactics to Avoid Overtraining:

Now, you know the Truth is; but how can you apply this in your everyday life?

#1 Get plenty of sleep!
Good quality sleep is essential

I know with how busy people are these days this one can be hard, but it is incredibly important. You NEED sleep, more so than the average person if you continounsly work out hard. Eight hours of sleep is of course best, but at least get Six. I would not recommend less than that.

#2 Improve Your Diet!

Get extra protein into your day; this is possible in any number of ways, a good thing to do is to get a good protein mix, and drink it once a day. There are many different types on the market, pick one that works best for you.

#3 Stretch, Stretch, Stretch!

Stretching helps loosen you up. Stretch before, stretch after. You'll be less sore, get the bloodflow going, and avoid the after session cramps. All very good things, for such an easy thing to do.

#4 Vitamins.

This one probably seems similar to our #2 Tip, but is just as important. Get a good multi-vitamin. They've been shown to lead to better recovery, and let's face it: How many of us are actually getting the vitamins we need in our daily lives? Especially with how rushed we are during the day.

I know this all might seem obvious to many of you. You may be right, or it could be the little bit you need to get over the Wall. Are you always tired or sore? Those are signs you're not getting enough rest! So take a break, drink a shake, and rest up so you can get back to building muscle, or losing weight.

9 Secrets From The World's Healthiest Countries

Many of us think of health as something that’s controlled individually from person to person. And while this is certainly true to some extent, the places we live in have more of an influence on us than we may realise.

Health is just as much a community concern as a personal one, and this is reflected nowhere better than on the national level. Some countries are healthier than others, with lower rates of disease, longer average lifespans, and better qualities of life. In his book “The Blue Zones: Nine Lessons for Living Longer,” Dan Buettner reveals some powerful health habits that these countries have in common.

1. Exercise regularly

People in Blue Zones tend to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives, but rather than setting aside an hour for running on the treadmill, they simply make better choices, like swapping their car commute for a bicycle ride. They also enjoy hobbies that keep them moving, like hiking, gardening and kayaking. It doesn’t have to be strenuous, as long as it’s regular.

2. Find ways to relieve stress

Everyone copes with stress differently, so be intentional about finding the things that work for you. Maybe it’s a yoga class, reading a book, or getting coffee with a friend. Whatever it is, set time aside for it throughout your week.

3. Eat healthy, plant-based diets

Most people in Blue Zones don’t skimp on servings of vegetables. Most of their diets revolve around veggies, whole grains, and beans, rather than animal products.

4. Live with purpose

Few things are better for your mental health than waking up each day feeling like it’s good to be alive. Set goals for yourself, even if they’re small goals, and make a decision to stay positive even in the face of negativity.

5. Practice moderation

Try to value the quality of something over the quantity. A delicious meal shouldn’t have to leave you stuffed, and you don’t need dessert every day. You’ll be healthier and happier if you can learn to be content with less.

6. Stay busy

Boredom can lead to a whole host of negative behaviours, whether it’s wasting an afternoon in front of the TV, turning to comfort food, or feeling depressed. Invest your time into jobs, hobbies, and relationships that leave you feeling fulfilled.

7. Get sufficient vitamin D

This certainly doesn’t mean spending hours baking in the sun, since that comes with health problems of its own, but vitamin D is necessary for boosting immunity and preventing disease. Eat foods that contain it, take supplements, or go in the sun for short periods of time.

8. Kick bad habits

Vices like smoking, excessive drinking, and staying up too late can all age you prematurely. The sooner you ditch them, the better off you’ll be.

9. Nap

A 30 minute nap a few times a week can relieve stress and reduce the risk of heart disease, so don’t feel guilty about lying down to rest your eyes now and then. Of course, this shouldn’t be treated as a substitute for adequate nightly sleep (aim for at least 7 hours).

Just remember, physical health goes hand in hand with mental health, so don’t neglect either one. Fill your life with good habits and positivity and you’ll be able to create your own mini Blue Zone, no matter where you live.

Are you already practicing these rituals? What else can you incorporate to live a healthier life?

Ten Most Frequently Asked Questions About Weight Loss - Part 8 Surgical options

8. How many pounds overweight should I be to be considered for a surgical weight loss program?
Weight loss surgeries-also called bariatric surgeries-can help treat obesity. You should only consider surgical treatment for weight loss if you: have a BMI of 40 or higher, have a BMI of 35 or higher and weight-related health problems, or you have not had success with other weight-loss methods.

Body mass index is a key index for relating a person's body weight to their height. The body mass index is a person's weight in kilograms (kg) divided by their height in meters (m) squared.

Common types of weight loss surgeries are:
Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. The surgeon uses surgical staples to create a small stomach pouch. This limits the amount of food you can eat. The pouch is attached to the middle part of the small intestine. Food bypasses the upper part of the small intestine and stomach, reducing the amount of calories and nutrients your body absorbs.

Laparoscopic gastric banding. A band is placed around the upper stomach to create a small pouch and narrow passage into the rest of the stomach. This limits the amount of food you can eat. The size of the band can be adjusted. A surgeon can remove the band if needed.

Biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) or BPD with duodenal switch (BPD/DS). In BPD, a large part of the stomach is removed, leaving a small pouch. The pouch is connected to the last part of the small intestine, bypassing other parts of the small intestine. In BPD/DS, less of the stomach and small intestine are removed. This surgery reduces the amount of food you can eat and the amount of calories and nutrients your body absorbs from food. This surgery is used less often than other types of surgery because of the high risk of malnutrition.

If you are thinking about weight-loss surgery, talk with your doctor about changes you will need to make after the surgery. You will need to: follow your doctor's directions as you heal, make lasting changes in the way you eat, follow a healthy eating plan and be physically active, and take vitamins and minerals if needed.

You should also talk to your doctor about risks and side effects of weight loss surgery. Side effects may include: infection, leaking from staples, hernia, blood clots in the leg veins that travel to your lungs (pulmonary embolism), dumping syndrome, in which food moves from your stomach to your intestines too quickly, and not getting enough vitamins and minerals from food
