We all know that drinking clean water is important for health and overall well-being.  A few weeks ago we looked at whether you can drink too much water and would happen if you did.

Today we look at the question of what would happen to you if you stopped drinking water? What would happen if you became de-hydrated?

Fat Loss Friday - How To Lose Weight - The Permanent Way

Ageing is something we can't avoid. And it is a fact that as you age, your appearance may go through some significant changes. As you reach your 40′s and beyond, you will begin to experience problems such as crow's feet, frown lines, and others associated with aging. Your metabolism will begin to change (read that as slow down) and your will find it easier to gain weight and get out of shape.
Ageing can make your weight creep up
You might find it more difficult to lose weight and maintain a satisfactory level of fitness. Most people will try to lose weight by dieting. It can work, but it is a slow process. It may be difficult, but it is not impossible.

The cliché "You are what you eat" really applies as we get older and less physically active. Not only will your diet apply to your overall well being, it also affects the health of your skin and mental well-being. Foods rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals have valuable anti-aging effects that counteract or slow down the problems that come with age. And there are lots of supplements that are supposed to make your skin glow and your mind sharp. None that I've seen have any scientific basis and few if any have been evaluated by the FDA. The only hope we have is to learn how to select, prepare and eat foods that are natural and provide the nutrients that help our bodies be the best they can be.

The good news is that there are literally thousands of diets out there that work for some people. The downside is that none of them work for everyone and it is up to each of us to find one that works and that we can live with.

I like a variety of food and some diets restrict certain foods that I like to eat. They won't work for me over the long term. Anyway, my opinion is that it is not what you eat as much as how much you eat that causes you to be fat. You don't have to change what you eat. Just be aware of how much you eat. Eat less, you'll lose weight.

Here are some free weight loss tips:

1. If you want to diet to lose weight, go for it. Do some research and find a diet that fits your lifestyle. Calculate how many calories you're eating before you start making changes and then keep track of how much you eat. Remember, to lose a pound of fat, your body has to burn 3500 calories more than you eat. That could be easy to get just by making small changes in what your eat or drink on a daily basis. Use up or eliminate 3500 calories a week and you'll lose a pound. Sounds simple, doesn't it!

2. Don't drink your calories. Calories from juices, soft drinks and energy drinks add up very quickly and are often not considered as part of what we eat.
Don't drink your calories
Soft drinks are nothing more than liquid candy. Every can of soft drink, diet drinks or energy drinks fill you up with empty calories that have no nutritional value. Read the labels. Soft drinks average about 160 calories. Drink water, lots of water. Use a lemon or orange slice to give it more flavor. Unsweetened tea has almost zero calories. There are lots of things that can take the place of soft drinks.

3. Get committed to lose the weight you want. Think about what you will gain if you lose weight and avoid talking about what you will lose. It's just a matter of perspective, but one is positive and the other is negative. Positive things are always worth working for and if you can visualize the body you want, you can probably get it.

Losing weight is never an easy task. It is important to learn how to effectively lose weight and approach your diet to get the best results.

Monday Muscle - The Best All Natural Sports Drink

Those of you who exercise consistently (hopefully most of you) or are involved in activities like marathon running or cycling are probably not strangers to sports drinks. It’s important to replenish the body of the vitamins and electrolytes it loses during intense activity, which is why sports drinks are so popular. But are they the right thing to be putting in your body after exercise…or is there a better alternative? Let’s find out.

The Dark Side of Sports Drinks

It’s true that most sports drinks are fortified with vitamins like the B vitamins and electrolytes like potassium and sodium, which the body needs after sweating. However, the cons of these beverages vastly outweigh the pros:

Sports drinks
Packed with simple sugars – If one of your exercise goals is to lose weight, downing a sports drink can undo all of the calorie-burning benefits you just worked so hard for. Many commercial sports drinks contain processed sugars that can end up right back on your waistline. They also spike your blood sugar, making you prone to diseases like diabetes. Contain artificial colours – Do you really want to drink some strange bright blue concoction that your body doesn’t even recognise? I don’t see much point in saturating your insides with food colouring. Have unpronounceable cocktails of chemicals – A few years ago it was discovered that Gatorade and Powerade included an ingredient called BVO – a chemical also used as an industrial flame retardant. They have since been removed, but it makes you wonder what else is in there.

What’s The Alternative?

Ditching the sports drinks is a good first step, but what’s a healthy replacement then? That’s where coconut water comes in. It has all of the good qualities of commercial sports drinks and none of the bad—plus an extra set of goodness all its own.
Sports drinks

Naturally contains an ideal electrolyte balance of potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus to maintain healthy bones, muscles, and cells Helps improve circulation and regulate blood pressure Has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties Is the richest known source of anti-aging phytohormones called “cytokinins” Improves immune system functioning Contains a variety of vitamins and minerals, and is especially rich in B vitamins Contains none of the artificial colours, preservatives and chemicals found in regular sports drinks.

Coconut water has a light, sweet taste, without all the added refined sugar you’ll encounter in sports drinks. Drinking it can also help to alkalise the body, so it can help you combat the harmful effects created by the acidic food and drink many of us consume every day.

As you should try to do with as many fruits and vegetables as possible, go organic with your coconut water if possible, to minimise the risks of being exposed to toxic pesticides sometimes used on commercially grown plants. You can buy pre-harvested coconut water in bottles, or drink it straight from the coconut!

If you choose the second option, don’t forget about the other parts of the coconut, which can also be beneficial to include in your diet. Coconut oil is widely recognised as a healthy fat, and coconut milk contains the same fat plus a dose of protein.

Losing Weight In A Week - Is it Possible?

Weight loss is such a popular subject that sometimes you come across statements with fantastic claims on losing weight.

What will be your reaction if someone says that you can reduce your weight in a week's time? You may be skeptical at first. But if you want to evaluate this claim, then you need to ask two questions to evaluate this claim. The first question is: How much weight I could lose in a week? The second question will be: Will the reduction in my weight be long lasting or will it be short-lived?

The answer to your first question is that you can lose about one kilogram of your weight in a week. But if you want to achieve a more substantial weight loss, you will have to take some specific steps. I will outline these steps here. I have not forgotten the second question. I will answer it at the end.

Sacrifice your evening snacks:
Many people are in the habit of talking certain food items like cookies, pasta and desserts in the evening. If you are one of them, please realize that these snacks will have the effect of increasing the fluid content in your body and make you fat. Avoid taking snacks in the evening since your body doesn't need to be fed in the evening. But if you feel hungry, take something light and nutritious like the vegetable sandwich.

Reduce your consumption of salt:
Decrease in salt intake can help you lose weight considerably. Reducing the intake of Sodium, the main ingredient of salt will enable the body to rid itself of some the fluids retained by it. Salt has to be consumed but in small quantities. You can make a conscious effort to reduce the salt consumption by ensuring that the salt added to dishes when they are cooked is reduced. This will also be good for your other family members who may not feel the need to lose weight. As is well known, reducing salt consumption will also help in keeping your blood pressure under control.

Say no to Diet Drinks:
Diet drinks, contrary to what their name implies, will not help you lose weight. Many of these drinks contain Sodium, a substance that causes fluids to accumulate in your body, You can lose weight only by avoiding them. In fact, if you have been taking diet drinks, you will see quick results, if you stop drinking them.

Have a dinner free from Carbohydrates:
Taking carbohydrate rich foods for dinner will be one of the biggest obstacles for your efforts to lose weight quickly. Keep such foods away from your night meal. Taking a light dinner made of vegetable salads alone can do miracles. You can include a piece of lean meat in your dinner once or twice a week, if you want to make the dinner more substantial.

Following the tips given above will definitely help you lose a few kilograms within a week But if you want the weight loss to remain with you for a long time, you should develop a weight loss plan on a long term basis.

Are Diet Drinks Making You Gain Weight?

Let's get right to the point, soda does not do the body good. "Pop", as it is popularly known as, is becoming the drink of the past, not of the future generations. Most people falsely believe that diet soda is helping them lose weight, but in fact, it is sabotaging their weight loss efforts.

I just read a study recently that stated that there is evidence that diet soda drinkers gain more weight than regular soda drinkers. This idea may be a shock to some diet soda lovers.

One of the first problems with diet sodas is the artificial sweeteners. These should be avoided at all costs, regardless of what they are in product wise. Some of these artificial sweeteners are used to kill lab animals in order to get body count ratio to humans to be within the "legal limit" for human consumption.

Artificial sweeteners fool your body into craving more carbohydrate based foods, which in turn makes you eat more carbs later, thus gaining more weight. Plus, one may think, since they have consumed zero calories, there is room for more. Not true! Studies show that diet soda drinkers eat more food because they subconciously believe that they saved on calories with a diet drink.

There is hope though in today's world for lots of alternatives. The first, most obvious healthy alternative to drink is pure water. If you don't however like the taste of plain water, you might put lemon in it. Lemon is the best cleanser on the planet, if you ask me. I once had the flu for 3 days. By day 2, I still couldn't keep anything down. I opted to start the master cleanser with lemon, grade A or B maple syrup, pure water, and a pinch of cayenne pepper, for the circulation, and some mint tea. I followed this for 7 to 10 days, without hunger pangs because my stomach was already so small because of not keeping any food down with the flu. I lost 20 pounds of water weight in 10 days. This can be modified, of course to upon waking, just drink a glass of fresh squeezed lemon water.

My favorite alternative to diet drinks is green tea, slightly steeped. I have found leaving the tea bag in for more than 3 minutes creates less of medicinal tang to it. I don't even wring out the tea bags, for it makes too srong of a flavor. I enjoy also some combos of black, green, red, and white teas, especially because of their antioxidant properties.
